(Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones are indelibly part of Ohio State history. After an injury to Braxton Miller, Barrett took over as starter in 2014, and got Ohio State into position to make the first ever College Football Playoff, and Jones ran with that momentum after Barrett suffered an injury against Michigan, and captured the national championship.Another big part of that team? Offensive coordinator Tom Herman.Ohio State could never quite recreate the offense that Herman engineered that season in the years since. He parlayed that into a highly successful stint as head coach at Houston, and ultimately, Texas.J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones were in Austin over the weekend, visiting Tom Herman and some of their former Ohio State coaches now with the Texas Longhorns.Tim Beck, who was on Ohio State’s staff from 2015-16 before joining Herman in Texas as offensive coordinator, posted a photo of the two former Buckeyes in Texas gear.Love seeing @JT_theQB4th and @Cardale7_ again. 2 of the Best ever ! #Family pic.twitter.com/wyA7bpgLVA— Tim Beck (@Coachtimbeck) March 30, 2019Texas also posted a video on the visit the two QBs made.“He’s a guy that mentors me to this day” – @Cardale7_ “He’s like family to me” – J.T. Barrett …on Texas Head Coach Tom Herman. #ThisIsTexas #HookEm pic.twitter.com/vSlc7jmBLW— Texas Football (@TexasFootball) March 31, 2019Unfortunately, you could probably guess that some fans took this the wrong way.this is a hate crime— Ramzy Nasrallah (@ramzy) March 31, 2019Blasphemy! #GoBucks— Pat Williams (@PatWilliamsOH) March 31, 2019I’m gonna pretend I never saw this.— JayRPh (@JayRPh) March 31, 2019At first I didn’t really care about the whole JT Barrett and Cardale Jones wearing Texas shirts. Then my brain kicked in and I remembered that Texas’ snitch of a coach is the reason Ohio State was in the mess they were last July. Got to be smarter than that.— Joseph (@BuckeyevsTworld) March 31, 2019Wtf are you two wearing?— Tony Reams (@Real_TReams) March 31, 2019One fan, who has since deleted his tweet, went after Cardale, and caught major blow back.Usually dont entertain jerks but let’s get something clear, Buckeyes FOR LIFE. We came to visit & support men we look up to and who helped developed us to be the men we are today. I support former teammates & coach, no matter what school they are at but 1, ❌ichigan. So fuck off https://t.co/KEqeZtCvCG— Cardale Jones (@Cardale7_) March 31, 2019And Cardale is right. There’s no real doubt which program he supports first, but Herman and Beck were incredibly important figures in his and J.T.’s college careers. Wearing burnt orange on one visit shouldn’t draw that much ire, considering how much they gave to Ohio State.last_img
